Interesting Fact: Alicante with a population of 1,750,000, is the second largest in the Valencian Community. It lies on the south-east Mediterranean coast (Costa Blanca). The province is bordered by Valencia province to the North and Murcia to the West. Albacete, province of Castilla la Mancha region lies to the northwest and just touches Alicante (province).
The Segura river is Alicante's main water source providing water to Alicante, Elche, Torrevieja, Orihuela and other cities. Aitana is the highest mountain in the province, other mountains include Maigmo, Puig Bell, and Mariola. Benidorm island and Tabarca are islands just of the coast. Alicante's main commerce centre around tourism, industry (dolls, textiles, shoes, carpets) and agriculture (tomatoes ,oranges, almonds, wine, lemons).
Other notable towns of Alicante province are Javea, Calpe, Benissa, Benidorm, Torrevieja, Denia, Alcoy, Moraira, Elche.
