Interesting Fact: One of the oldest universities in Spain indeed in Europe was commissioned to be built in Salamanca by Alfonso IX in 1218. Known locally as Salamanca's lounge, the Plaza Mayor, constructed in the early 1700's Has become a communal meeting place. It has been used for bullfighting but more recently music concerts prevail. The Plaza will hold approximately twenty thousand people. Towns of interest in the province of Salamanca are Alba de Tormes, Bejar, Ciudad Rodrigo, Penaranda de Bracamonte, Santa Marta de Tormes.
