Interesting Fact: Toledo is a farming and ranching province, with vineyards, wheat, cotton and tobacco, sheep and goats being the main types of livestock; most of Toledo's industries are connected to agriculture and handicrafts. It's' idyllic setting on a plateau high above the Tajo River has always given it a special mystique for the visitor. It was the capital of Spain until the 16th century and is about 75km away from the now capital Madrid., Toledo is bordered by other Castilla la Mancha (Castile la Mancha) provinces of Ciudad Real and Cuenca to the south and east. Madrid, and Castilla y Leon's province of Avila lay to the north. Extremadura, and its provinces of Caceres and Badajoz are on the western side. Other places of interest in the province of Toledo are Oropesa, Talvera de la Montalban, Ocana, El Toboso, Consuegra.
