Interesting Fact: Situated on the Rio Pisuerga, Valladolid has a great history and much of its culture is preserved in the 'old quarter'. Buildings including the unfinished 17th century cathedral, palaces and churches. Also, homes belonging to Christopher Columbus (died here 1506) and Cervantes, author of Don Quixote lived here from 1603 to 1606. Both these houses are open to the public. Towns of interest in the province of Valladolid are Cisterniga, Iscar, Laguna de Duero, Medina de Rioseco, Medina del Campo, Tordesillas, Tudela de Duero. Valladolid is the capital of the province and also serves as the capital of the region.
